The mayor of Kyiv announced that one woman was killed and at least 11 others were injured today, Tuesday, in the third attack launched by Russia on the Ukrainian capital within 24 hours. Officials reported that Ukraine shot down more than 20 Russian drones during what Serhiy Popko, the head of the military administration in Kyiv, described as a massive, multi-phase assault from different directions. The attack on Kyiv came ahead of a drone strike targeting Moscow, for which Russia blamed the Ukrainian side.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the victim was 33 years old and was standing on her balcony to observe the air defenses when debris from a drone fell on her residential tower, which has 24 floors, causing a fire that destroyed apartments on the upper levels. He continued, "The likelihood of air attacks is extremely high. Therefore, I urge the citizens of Kyiv not to take their safety lightly and not to ignore air raid sirens!"
He noted that four other residents of the building were injured, while 20 were evacuated. Reuters was unable to independently verify the report. The number of drones launched by Russia has not yet been confirmed. Debris destroyed two upper floors of a building in the Holosiivskyi area, while emergency services continued to search for people under the rubble. Mayor Klitschko stated, "Four people were injured, and 20 others were evacuated." He added, "The enemy continues to attack the capital. These nighttime explosions erupted in many parts of the city." The number of drones launched by Russia remains unknown.
