Rapid Support Forces Welcome UN Call for Ceasefire During Ramadan

The Sudanese "Rapid Support Forces" welcomed today, Saturday, the "UN Security Council Resolution 2724, which called for a cessation of hostilities in Sudan during the holy month of Ramadan." They hope that this step will alleviate the suffering of Sudanese people by facilitating humanitarian aid delivery and civilian movement, as well as serving as a starting point for serious consultations towards initiating a political process leading to a permanent ceasefire and achieving security and stability, ultimately providing a comprehensive solution to the Sudanese crisis from its roots and rebuilding the country on new, just foundations.

In a statement, they said, "The response of our forces to this resolution stems from our moral responsibility towards our great people, aligns with our principled stance against war, and resonates with our desire to alleviate the suffering of our people and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across Sudan, especially in areas where the other party deliberately punishes civilians by obstructing aid access."

They added, "Therefore, while we welcome the proposed humanitarian truce, we announce our readiness to engage in discussions regarding mutually agreed monitoring mechanisms to ensure its implementation and achieve the necessary humanitarian objectives."
