The South Lebanon Water Authority announced that starting from October 1, 2023, it will implement the new tariff for the annual subscription fee for current subscribers, set at 10 million Lebanese pounds per cubic meter. This decision comes in response to rising operational and maintenance costs, particularly the cost of energy bills and the decision by the Electricité du Liban to require water institutions (and all public institutions) to settle their bills, issuing warnings of power cuts to all stations, facilities, and administrative buildings in case of non-payment. Additionally, the continuous increase in fuel prices (mainly diesel) necessary for generator operation has contributed to this change.
In the statement, the authority mentioned that those wishing to benefit from the current tariff set at 3 million 600 thousand Lebanese pounds per cubic meter annually can visit its offices in various districts to settle their dues between September 5, 2023, and September 30, 2023. Moreover, non-subscribers can take advantage of the reduced tariff to apply for a new subscription and regularize their status within the same timeframe set for settling dues.
