Developments in Gaza: Between Sisi and a U.S. Congressional Delegation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met on Wednesday with a congressional delegation from both the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States. During the meeting, regional developments were discussed, particularly in the Gaza Strip. The official spokesperson for the presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the meeting emphasized the importance and centrality of the strategic partnership and the close relations between Egypt and the United States. The American delegation expressed the United States' commitment, especially from Congress, to enhance areas of cooperation between the two countries, recognizing the position and role of Egypt in the region and its ongoing efforts to promote security, stability, and development.

Fahmy reported that there was an open dialogue between the president and the American delegation regarding the regional developments, particularly in Gaza. The president outlined the general context of the current situation, stressing the need to work seriously towards a fair and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue by establishing an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the recognized reference points.

He mentioned that Sisi emphasized that the current priority is to reach a ceasefire and protect civilians, as well as to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches in sufficient quantities to address the humanitarian tragedy faced by the residents of the sector, in line with and in implementation of relevant UN resolutions. Sisi also underscored Egypt's complete rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue by displacing Palestinians from their lands. Members of the delegation praised the "valued effort and role that Egypt is playing."
