Lebanon Overcomes a Serious Security Crisis

Sources monitoring the events that occurred last weekend expressed their belief that Lebanon has narrowly avoided a serious security crisis that could have led to complications and security repercussions, the outcomes of which cannot be predicted and would affect the overall situation already burdened by the wounds of the economic, social, and living catastrophe faced by the Lebanese people in various regions. This is compounded by the political deadlock due to a deliberate obstruction of the election of a new president, as well as increasing public discontent stemming from the deterioration of political and governmental performance at all levels.

The sources noted to "Al-Liwaa" that the activation of legal and security pursuits against the families of the martyrs of the Beirut Port, in this manner and precisely at this time, despite all justifications given under the guise of enforcing the law, maintaining security and stability, and pursuing those undermining security, ultimately produced a completely opposite effect. It resulted in a dangerous security upheaval, reaching the brink of widespread chaos, increasing distrust in the State Security apparatus, undermining its image, and further dragging the judiciary into division, weakness, and paralysis.

The situation requires a response to any violation of laws with responsibility and wisdom, considering the difficult circumstances Lebanon is facing, in order to avoid any reactions that might escalate to the level of popular uprisings, security unraveling, chaos, and instability.

The sources expressed concern that the events of last weekend might be driven by malicious hands harboring ill intentions for Lebanon, targeting security and military institutions to tarnish their image among the public, thus preparing to weaken their influence and responsibility in maintaining security and stability. At the same time, there is an effort to paralyze and weaken the judicial authority, preventing it from fulfilling its duties and responsibilities in achieving justice, which means undermining two essential pillars of the nation and the state.
