America Lists 3 Chinese Companies as Persecutors of the Uyghurs

A government publication stated today, Tuesday, that the United States has added three Chinese companies to a list of entities that subject individuals, including members of the Muslim Uyghur minority, to forced labor, as part of an effort to eliminate such practices from the U.S. supply chain. The publication noted that this action included the companies "Xinjiang Tianmian Foundation Textile Co., Ltd.," "Xinjiang Tianshan Wool Textile Co., Ltd.," and "Xinjiang Zhongtai Group Co., Ltd." The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, enacted in 2021, prohibits U.S. imports produced either in Xinjiang or by companies listed in the sanction list, unless the importer can prove that they were not produced using forced labor. This list identifies entities that collaborate with the government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region to recruit and transfer Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, or other members of persecuted groups outside the region. U.S. officials believe that Chinese authorities have established labor camps for Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang, while Beijing denies committing any violations.
