Cancellation of Flight Between Zurich and Beirut: Is War Approaching?

Swiss International Air Lines canceled a flight between Zurich and Beirut late Thursday to Friday after its experts deemed the security situation in Lebanon "difficult to assess." The airline, part of the German Lufthansa Group, reported that the aircraft on the route to Beirut, carrying 138 passengers, was diverted to Vienna, confirming information published by the newspaper "20 Minuten."

A spokesperson for Swiss International Air Lines stated that "due to recent developments in the Middle East," the decision was made to cancel the flight "after our experts reached the conclusion that the situation in Lebanon was difficult to assess last night." He added that since they did not receive a landing permit in Zurich, the plane returned to Vienna as a "precautionary measure" so that they could "correctly assess the situation."

He clarified that after careful consideration, the airline ultimately decided to maintain its flights to Beirut and Tel Aviv, but they continue to monitor the situation "closely."
