Guterres Warns of the Danger of Widespread Community Conflict in Darfur

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated today, Monday, that "the indiscriminate attacks that kill, injure, and terrorize civilians in Sudan could be considered war crimes and crimes against humanity," raising alarms about the escalating fighting in North Darfur State. Speaking to reporters on the anniversary of the conflict in the country, he said, "Recent reports of increased hostilities in El Fasher, the state capital, are a new cause for serious concern." Guterres added, "Let me be clear: any attack on El Fasher would be devastating for civilians and could lead to widespread community conflict across Darfur."
