Pope Francis sent a message to the Bishop of Teramo - Atri, Bishop Lorenzo Leuzzi, on the occasion of the international conference held in Teramo, in collaboration with the diocese and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, titled "Science for Peace." In this message, he highlighted the importance of science and thought, the pursuit of truth, and intellectual love.
At the beginning of his message, he expressed his desire to convey greetings to the organizers and participants of the event, as well as his wishes for a fruitful course of activities for this initiative. He emphasized his thoughts towards the academic and scientific institutions, the guests representing Italian and European bodies, and all men and women working in the field of scientific research.
He stated, "The new generations aspire to meet students of knowledge with these qualities, so that they can prepare to be leaders in history and contribute to the development of a strong culture. This is a great challenge."
The Pope reminded of the message with which Saint Pope Paul VI concluded the Second Vatican Council, where he called on scholars and scientists to "continue the search for truth tirelessly and without despair," emphasizing the words of Saint Augustine: "We seek out of hope that we may find, and we find filled with the desire to seek again." He pointed out that "Pope Paul VI emphasized at that time the importance of continuous search for truth and continuing to seek even after having found it in order to renew it, delve into it, and impart it to others, also mentioning that those who do not reach the truth still move towards it with sincere hearts."
