U.S. President Joe Biden described the potential collapse of NATO as a "catastrophe" for the United States, the European Union, and the entire world. In an interview with Univision Noticias, Biden stated, "The worst thing that could be imagined is that NATO begins to unravel, which would be catastrophic for the U.S., Europe, and the entire world." He pointed out that the U.S. and its allies "have managed to expand NATO, and with the accession of the Nordic countries to the alliance, they have gained an additional 2,000 miles of borders." He added, "We have a full group of NATO member states on the border with Russia." In recent years, Russia has reported unprecedented NATO activity on its western borders, where NATO is expanding. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern over the buildup of NATO forces in Europe, emphasizing that Russia does not threaten anyone but will not ignore actions that could pose a risk to its interests.
