Chad has been under military rule since a coup in 2021. The electoral commission announced on Tuesday the dates for the presidential elections, which are set to transition from military to democratic rule. It stated that the elections would be held in two rounds during May and June. Initially, the military authorities indicated that elections would take place within 18 months, but they later extended the transitional period to October 10, 2024.
