Thinker Habib Sadiq: To His Final Resting Place

Former MP, political activist, and writer Habib Sadiq passed away after suffering from illness. Sadiq was born in the city of Nabatieh in 1931. He was a Lebanese writer, poet, researcher, leftist political activist, and president of the Cultural Council of Southern Lebanon. He was elected to the Lebanese Parliament in the 1992 elections on the "Development and Liberation" list but soon withdrew from the bloc to become an independent MP. He authored over ten books in literature, politics, and poetry, in addition to participating in many studies organized and published by the Cultural Council of Southern Lebanon. Sadiq was also known for collecting the literary and poetic heritage of the Jabal Amel region and oversaw a series of publications under the title "Jabal Ameli Heritage."

Former MP Walid Jumblatt mourned the deceased, writing on his Twitter page: "Habib Sadiq, the great humanistic intellectual fighter, has passed away. A refined face of the South and Lebanon in struggle and resistance has left us. He was the founder of the Southern Lebanon Council. He was a distinguished figure in the intellectual and Arab history of Lebanon, fighting for freedom and battling the symbols of the old tyranny alongside Kamal Jumblatt. Habib Sadiq represents a great history. A dear friend has passed away."
