The representative of the Sultanate of Oman before the International Court of Justice stated that "Palestinians have been living under occupation and daily oppression for 75 years," urging the court to consider "Israel's violation of the right to self-determination for Palestinians." He remarked, "The world is currently witnessing one of the worst atrocities being committed in the Gaza Strip," pointing out that "Israel is working to change the demographic composition of the occupied territories."
The Oman spokesperson called on the court to look into Israel's violation of Palestinians' right to self-determination, stating, "There is an international consensus on the right to self-determination for Palestinians," and emphasized that "Israel must put an end to all activities that prevent Palestinians from determining their own future."
The Oman representative at the International Court of Justice considered that the forced expulsion of those whose lands have been occupied and the transfer of settlers to those lands is prohibited under the Geneva Convention, noting that settlement and annexation of Palestinian lands and the displacement of Palestinians aim to prolong the occupation.
He concluded his statement before the International Court of Justice in The Hague by affirming that there is no legal justification for continuing the occupation and denying Palestinians their right to self-determination. This statement comes as the court began a week-long hearing last Monday on the legal consequences of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories in The Hague. The court is expected to hear briefings from more than 50 countries, in addition to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, and the African Union.
