Cabinet Follows Up on the Study of the 2023 Budget Project

Prime Minister Najib Mikati extended his congratulations and thanks to Minister of Education and Higher Education Abbas Halabi for the effort put in by him and his ministry team in completing the official examinations, the results of which began to be released today, Tuesday. He wished the students a bright future.

At the beginning of the Cabinet session, Mikati stated: "Article four of the decree organizing the work of the Cabinet stipulates that draft laws and regulatory decrees must be sent at least one week before their discussion in the Cabinet. Yesterday, we distributed to the ministers a draft law aimed at allowing the government to borrow in foreign currencies from the Central Bank of Lebanon, which means that the discussion might take time, and the Central Bank needs a quicker pace on this matter. Therefore, I suggest that a legislative proposal be submitted by deputies in the Parliament in this regard, especially since some may object to sending a draft law from the government, which means further wasting time. Through the draft law, the Parliament can make the decision it deems appropriate."

On another note, President Mikati asked the Minister of Finance about the issue of the forensic report. The minister replied that he is awaiting the final report in the coming days, and President Mikati requested him to publish it in accordance with the proper procedures as soon as he receives it.

The Cabinet will hold a session at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 3, 2023, to continue discussing the draft law of the general budget for 2023, in addition to discussing four other items.
