Stephanie Khoury Appointed Deputy Head of UN Mission in Libya

The new US envoy to Libya, Stephanie Khoury, has arrived in the capital Tripoli from Tunisia, where she will hold a series of intensive meetings with all active political and military parties in the Libyan scene, according to a responsible Libyan UN source confirmed to "Al-Ittihad." The source stated that Khoury will take over the political affairs file in the UN mission and manage the mission following the official departure of Abdullah Batili from Tripoli on May 15. It noted that she will conduct extensive consultations with active parties starting next week in order to outline the main reasons for the political impasse in Libya. The source added that Khoury will focus on the three pathways to a solution in Libya, starting with the military pathway aimed at unifying the military and security institutions and removing foreign forces, the political pathway focused on activating the mission's role in bringing Libyan parties together to agree on the necessity of holding elections within a specified timeframe, in addition to the economic pathway to address the challenges facing the Libyan citizen and the national economy during the current period.
