The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, affirmed that "October 13, 1990, is a date etched deeply in our memory and consciousness, shaping our political identity to the extent that we consider ourselves the children of October 13—a school that sees an end as a beginning; the end of military resistance became the beginning of political resistance." After the mass commemorating the souls of the martyrs of October 13 at St. Elias Church in Antelias, he added: "Corruption in its essence contradicts the law, which means it undermines the principle of the rule of law, in addition to destroying state institutions and drying up its resources, turning its wealth into the pockets of beneficiaries or foreign interests controlling the interior. Consequently, it deprives the state of its financial capabilities, meaning it robs it of exercising its financial independence, and in the case of Lebanon, it places it in the hands of foreign interests. All of this denies citizens their rights in these resources and wealth, depriving them of a dignified living and shackling them to an oppressive politician, ultimately stripping them of individual freedom due to need and poverty, if not destitution and humiliation."
He pointed out that "the massive influx of displaced people our country is witnessing exceeds any capacity to absorb it geographically, resource-wise, or demographically; no country in the world would accept it, and it surpasses any record in terms of its size and population density. This organized, random displacement violates all international treaties and laws, as it contradicts all Lebanese laws. Therefore, the economic displaced person working illegally, residing illegally, and committing all kinds of violations profoundly undermines sovereignty. Additionally, depriving the citizen of their rights to work, education, electricity, water, and transportation, as the displaced person forcibly shares these with them, limits their living freedoms and restricts them in their existence. The displaced person, due to receiving foreign aid, ends up being prioritized over the local inhabitants. Moreover, when a people is forced to emigrate from their homeland due to the loss of life opportunities and rights within it, they are replaced by another people taking their place in rights and opportunities."
