Jordan and Spain: No Alternative to UNRWA

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated today, Wednesday, that "Jordan and Spain agree that there is no alternative to the UNRWA agency, especially in light of the humanitarian disaster faced by the residents of Gaza." In a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares, Safadi emphasized that "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must not be allowed to undermine regional security, continue the war, displace the residents of Gaza, and starve them."

Safadi and Albares discussed the serious developments in Gaza, the catastrophic consequences of the war, and efforts to halt it, ensure civilian protection, and deliver humanitarian assistance. Safadi reiterated that "we cannot remain silent about the death of children and the mass killing of innocents in Gaza, nor can we allow Israel to prevent aid from entering the besieged sector," explaining that he discussed the deteriorating conditions in Gaza with his Spanish counterpart.

He mentioned that "Spain has a key role in peace efforts, from which the peace process began 30 years ago, and we rely on its role in finding a solution to the disaster in the Gaza Strip." He pointed out that "Spain's position is firm in supporting the UN agency, which works towards achieving peace in the Middle East and recognizes the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people." He stressed that "the UNRWA must continue to fulfill its duties while emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and allowing humanitarian aid to enter the sector."
