Indian Navy Rescues Crew of Ship Attacked by Houthis Off Yemen

The Indian Navy announced today, Thursday, that it has rescued the crew of an American-owned ship in the Gulf of Aden after it was attacked by the Yemeni Houthi group, amid rising tensions in the maritime corridors of the region disrupting global trade.

Following the attack on the American ship, Jinko Picardi, late Wednesday night, the U.S. military stated that its forces had launched strikes on 14 Houthi missiles "that posed an imminent threat to commercial vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the area."

After the latest attack, India directed a warship stationed in the area to rescue the crew members of Jinko Picardi, consisting of 22 individuals, including nine Indians. None of the crew members were harmed, and a fire that had broken out onboard was extinguished.

The Houthis claimed that their missiles hit the tanker "directly." Jinko Shipping Company confirmed the attack, noting that its vessel had been struck by a projectile while transiting through the Gulf of Aden with a cargo of phosphate rock.
