On Monday, Speaker of the House Nabih Berri congratulated the leadership of the army, "the commander, officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers," on the occasion of August 1st, Lebanese Army Day, praising the "sacrifices made for the unity of Lebanon and the preservation of its sovereignty and civil peace." Berri stated, "The true tribute to this national institution is for all political parties to recall the trinity of the army in honor, sacrifice, and loyalty, for the sake of Lebanon and the liberation of what remains of its territory from Israeli occupation, and to save and preserve it as a homeland for all its children." Berri contacted General Joseph Aoun to congratulate him on Army Day. He also received today at the second presidential palace in Ain al-Tineh, British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Carr, where they discussed general conditions and bilateral relations between Lebanon and the United Kingdom. Additionally, the Speaker addressed the updates during his meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Ralph Tarraf.
