The new TikTok service, "Series," will allow eligible content creators to upload sets of up to 80 long videos, each with a duration of up to 20 minutes, behind a paywall. Currently, the longest video length allowed by TikTok is ten minutes. The app announced that "it will allow some content creators to produce longer videos for a fee," thereby opening a new avenue for its users to earn money.
TikTok, owned by ByteDance, noted that its users are increasingly coming to the platform to produce content such as spreadsheets, workout routines, and cooking recipes, an area where YouTube remains the dominant destination.
After revolutionizing the social media landscape, which is largely dominated by Facebook and Instagram (both owned by Meta Platforms) with its short videos and advanced recommendation algorithm, TikTok is now entering competition with another giant, YouTube, owned by Google.
