Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri warned that "if Israel wages war on Lebanon, God's wrath will descend upon it," affirming that "there is no intention on Lebanon's part to expand the war." In an interview with the newspaper "Al-Jomhouria," Berri confirmed that "Amal Movement is not a party to the war, and I personally am working to prevent the war from escalating. There is communication between us and Hezbollah regarding the preservation of the rules of engagement. The party has so far not deviated from the rules of engagement in its operations against the enemy's army, as it exclusively targets military sites, and we support it in that." He emphasized that "Israel is the one that violates the rules daily by expanding the circle of its violations and repeated attacks on civilians."
He insisted that "there is no intention to expand the war, but if Israel initiates a war and launches aggression against Lebanon, then the situation will be different, and we will confront it, and God's wrath will descend upon it." He pointed out that "in this war, Israel committed the crime of the century: extreme brutality and horrific massacres, having killed so far, with premeditated intent, more than 7,500 children and over 5,000 women, and even avenged itself on children's toys."
He added: "Indeed, we hear calls for the implementation of Resolution 1701, which is a good thing, especially since we in Lebanon are committed to this resolution and we are among the most vocal in demanding its implementation and holding Israel accountable." He clarified that "this resolution is an international decision, which explicitly mentions the Shebaa Farms twice. Lebanon's international borders have been known and defined since 1943, though there are some disputed points along the blue line that have been addressed, while a few points remain unresolved and need to be dealt with."
