The "ANP" news agency reported today, Friday, that nearly 500 electric cars are aboard a cargo ship that is on fire off the Dutch coast, according to the shipping company "K Line." The fire on the ship "Fremantle Highway," registered in Panama and carrying a cargo of new cars, resulted in the death of an Indian crew member and injured seven others who jumped overboard to escape the flames. A spokesperson for the Tokyo-based operating company stated that "the ship's cargo consisted of 3,783 vehicles, including 498 electric vehicles." The "RTL" station published an audio recording indicating that an emergency team member said, "The fire started in an electric vehicle’s battery." The Dutch Safety Board mentioned that the Panama Maritime Authority has opened an investigation and that the Netherlands is assisting with the inquiries. The coast guard reported that the 199-meter-long ship is still burning and is about 17 kilometers from the northernmost point of the Dutch coast, en route from Germany to Egypt.
