Abu Faour from Dar al-Fatwa: Extension for the Army Commander and Appointment of a Military Council

Grand Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan received MP Wael Abu Faour today, Wednesday, at Dar al-Fatwa. Following the meeting, Abu Faour stated: "There is always a need to meet with His Eminence and to benefit from his wisdom. Today, I had the honor of this meeting. Of course, it is not permissible to meet with the Mufti without justice and truth being the common ground of this meeting, and it is essential for the Palestinian cause to be present in this meeting. Today, the Palestinian cause has become a measure of humanity and a measure of morality, and the blood of Palestinian children and the Palestinian people is what draws the line between what is humane and what is barbaric."

Abu Faour observed that "the Palestinian cause, unfortunately, with the heavy prices paid by the Palestinian people in this new massacre, the massacre of the new era, is no longer just a national, religious, or political issue, but has become an ethical issue. In parallel with our support for the Palestinian people, there was an agreement with His Eminence that this does not contradict, in any way, protecting Lebanon from Israeli aggression and not allowing the release of this aggression, which has always been latent against Lebanon, undermining its stability and security."

He added: "Moreover, there was an agreement with the Mufti on the priority of priorities, the noble cause that cannot be surpassed by any other cause, which is in our national reality the election of a president for the republic. It is unacceptable for some of us to claim that we are preoccupied with what is happening in Palestine; on the contrary, what is happening in Palestine and on the borders of Lebanon, along with the Israeli assaults, and the internal crises of economy, livelihood, and society should be a motivation to expedite the election of a president for the republic, not to wait."

He emphasized that "until this matter occurs, which we hope will happen as soon as possible, it is not permissible to tamper with or neglect the stability of the institutions that guarantee our national life, specifically the army and security apparatuses. I believe that everyone acknowledges and admits that the Lebanese army, the military institution, today is the tent that protects this Lebanese stability, and it should not be subjected to political struggles or political whims. Therefore, the Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Gathering call again from this platform for the necessity of extending the term of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun and appointing a military council to ensure the stability of the institution, which means stability for Lebanon. We hope this matter will soon come to fruition, not from a political agenda, as we do not have a political goal in this matter, but we have a feeling of national necessity that we hope will materialize to protect us from further dangers."
