Umayma, the daughter of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, revealed secrets of the terrorist organization and details about her father, the most dangerous man in the world over the past decade, in an interview with "Al-Arabiya." She stated, "I was shocked when I saw my father on television announcing the caliphate of ISIS from the Al-Nuri Mosque in Mosul," adding that he returned home a week after that sermon.
She further mentioned, "When I asked him about it, he laughed." She pointed out that the al-Baghdadi family's life "was subjected to heightened security measures following the declaration of the caliphate," explaining that "we were not allowed to go out to the garden for fear of aircraft." She revealed that there was no interaction with their neighbors, but noted that she "only saw the Syrian wife of ISIS leader Abu Muhammad al-Adnani once."
The widow of al-Baghdadi revealed that the former ISIS leader took over 10 Yazidi captives, describing his obsession with women and how this contributed to the so-called "caliphate" turning into a state focused on women. She recounted his fear and anxiety about American surveillance that was tracking and targeting the leaders of the organization that instilled terror in Syria and Iraq for years.
Additionally, she disclosed that he had 11 children, one of whom was killed in Syria after detonating himself, while others were recently arrested in Iraq. It is noted that the leader, who established his authority over vast areas of Iraq and Syria in 2014, proclaiming his alleged caliphate at that time and imposing his extremist laws, was killed in October 2019 following a special operation by the United States in Idlib province, northwest Syria. The organization was defeated in 2017 when Baghdad announced its victory, but some of its cells remain active in various scattered regions.
