The 14th edition of the Malmö Arab Film Festival has commenced in Sweden, featuring 26 films. The organizers chose the Sudanese film "Goodbye Julia," directed by Mohamed Kordofani, who has won several international awards, for the opening screening. The festival includes two competitions: the feature films category, which comprises 12 films, and the short films category, which includes 14 films. Additionally, four Saudi films will be showcased in the "Arab Nights" section, along with two films from Egypt and Iraq.
During the opening, the festival honored Egyptian director Khairy Beshara for his body of work, as well as Palestinian composer Mohamed Habash and Syrian designer Maher Mazouk for their contributions to the festival’s music and logo. Concurrently with the ongoing screenings until April 28, the Malmö Film Industry Days are taking place, offering cash and in-kind prizes for film projects in production and development stages. The festival, which first launched in 2011, is one of the prominent artistic events connecting the Arab region with the Scandinavian countries in Northern Europe.
