News has spread on social media claiming that Abu Ubaida, the military spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, is outside of Palestine. The post included a graphic featuring a statement attributed to Abu Ubaida saying, "Yes, I am outside of Palestine, but I am with Gaza in my heart and emotions." Research has shown that the post is fake and fabricated. Several accounts shared this fabricated post in response to Abu Ubaida's appearance after days of absence, where he announced the destruction of 180 military vehicles and the killing and wounding of hundreds of occupation soldiers, as well as the bombardment of Israeli army fortifications.
There were claims that Abu Ubaida was injured due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza and that he was hiding beneath Nasser Hospital. However, with his repeated appearances, they alleged that he is located outside Gaza. While it is true that some people dislike Abu Ubaida, there are also those who admire him and see him as a symbol of Palestine and resistance.
A Turkish professor dedicated the scientific award he received—at the third ceremony of the "Science Publishing Foundation" awards in Turkey—to the military spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubaida, referring to him as "a symbol of resistance in Palestine."
Professor Ilhami Gülçin from Atatürk University in Erzurum stated, "I dedicate this award specifically to those who have become symbols of resistance in Palestine. I dedicate it to people like Abu Ubaida and to my brothers in the academic field in Turkey. I salute you all with great respect." Gülçin sent a message via local Turkish media in a video circulating on social media, stating that "the world must always stand against oppression and injustice. We oppose injustice not only in Palestine but against all injustice in the world. However, the oppression in Gaza is occurring with a brutality that humanity has never witnessed before."
He added, "I send my regards to Abu Ubaida and those defending the Palestinian cause, and I dedicate the medal I received to all Palestinian resistors. We are scholars, and it is our duty to respond to persecution no matter what."
