On September 24, 2023, the West Asian Football Federation and the Arab Gulf Cup Federation signed a joint cooperation agreement. The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the West Asian Federation in the Jordanian capital, Amman, under the patronage of His Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the West Asian Federation, and His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation.
The agreement aims to strengthen the ties of cooperation to develop football and will help coordinate the scheduling of tournaments and activities for both federations, establishing them for longer periods in the coming years. Both His Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein and His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani emphasized the importance of signing this agreement to unify the efforts made by the two federations to serve football in the region.
His Highness Prince Ali appreciated the significant efforts made by the Arab Gulf Cup Federation over many years, which have resulted in positive impacts contributing to noticeable developments in the football system. He pointed out the gains expected from this cooperation, thanks to opening avenues for exchanging expertise, experiences, and knowledge between the two federations.
He added, "The agreement represents a new starting point for further work to develop football and achieve a positive impact on the national federations, whether in the Gulf region or in West Asia as a whole. It also serves as a solid bridge linking the two leading federations and enhances future cooperation between them."
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani expressed the importance of this agreement, which is part of the federations' efforts to create fruitful partnerships that contribute to the development and support of football, given the accumulated expertise of both parties that will add qualitative benefits to achieving successes.
He praised the role played by the West Asian Federation in supporting the game, alongside its commitment to developing ambitious and comprehensive plans focused primarily on providing a fertile ground to support the programs of both federations. He said, "The two federations share common goals, and the agreement serves as a source of strength for translating these goals into reality. It also enhances the significant presence of both federations at the regional level and ensures the continuity of their vital roles in advancing the development of football."
