Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan affirmed that the resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran is a pivotal point for security in the region. He emphasized the Kingdom's desire to enhance bilateral relations with Tehran, adding that the ambition is sincere and serious to build mutual trust between the two sides. In a joint press conference at the ministry with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Thursday, he pointed out that the Kingdom is keen to activate security and economic agreements with Iran. He stated, "We seek to enhance relations with Tehran based on mutual respect." He added that the Kingdom appreciates Iran's support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host "Expo 2030."
For his part, Abdollahian confirmed that he had fruitful discussions in Riyadh, adding, "We value the role of the Kingdom in the region." He said, "We can work with Saudi Arabia to resolve outstanding issues in the region immediately." He noted that Tehran supports achieving security and peace in the region without fragmentation. He also pointed out that relations with Saudi Arabia are moving in the right direction and are witnessing progress, stressing that his country is determined to develop and strengthen relations with Saudi Arabia. He indicated that there is an agreement in viewpoints between the two sides to activate essential agreements, adding that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi is expected to visit the Kingdom soon.
The Iranian Foreign Minister arrived in Riyadh earlier today on an official visit, the first since the diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed years ago. His visit to the Kingdom follows Prince Faisal’s meeting with Iranian officials in Tehran in June, which was the first visit he made to the Islamic Republic after the two sides agreed, mediated by China in March, to resume relations.
