Burns in Qatar to Gauge Hamas's Response to Ceasefire Proposal

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that CIA Director William Burns is visiting Qatar today, Wednesday, to learn about Hamas's response to the ceasefire proposal. He added, "The question now is what Hamas will do? Burns will be in Doha to consult with the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, because he, along with the Emir of Qatar, whom President Biden spoke with yesterday, have had extensive discussions with Hamas." He continued, "Burns will be very interested in hearing firsthand the nature of those discussions and where things will go from here." Sullivan stated, "The United States is in contact every hour with the Qataris as we await an official response from Hamas," adding, "We are now waiting for a response from Hamas, and we will consider the official response as the one that is conveyed to the Qataris, who are the ones that conveyed the proposal from the Israeli negotiators to Hamas, and we have not received that yet. We are in contact not just daily, but every hour with the Qataris."
