A Spanish press report has revealed a significant surprise regarding Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, requesting head coach Xavi Hernandez to remain in his position. Xavi had announced his departure from training Barcelona at the end of the current season, following the loss in the Spanish Super Cup final, elimination from the Copa del Rey, and distancing from the La Liga title race.
The newspaper "Sport" stated, "Joan Laporta, who has a wonderful and close relationship with Xavi, informally conveyed his desire for him to continue next season, even until the end of his current contract."
The newspaper added, "Laporta was not alone; the sporting vice president, Rafa Yusti, also spoke personally with Xavi about how suitable his continuity would be for the project."
The report indicated that should Xavi decide to change his mind and continue with Barcelona, the doors will be open for him to do so. It also mentioned that finding a replacement for Xavi is far from easy, as many candidates have declined the position due to the necessity of winning titles and the difficulties in making signings to strengthen the team because of the current financial situation.
