Turki Al-Hamad is a political analyst, journalist, and novelist. He is known for his trilogy "The Shadows of Abandoned Streets," which was first published in 1998. He was born in Jordan in 1953 to a family of merchants originally from Buraydah, Qassim Province in Saudi Arabia. His family moved when he was a child to Dammam in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom. Later, Al-Hamad moved to the United States, where he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1985, then returned to Riyadh to teach political science at King Saud University. In 1995, he retired to devote himself to writing. He began as a writer for Al-Riyadh newspaper and then moved in 1990 to the "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" newspaper.
