After Offensive Statements.. Jordan Summons Iranian Ambassador in Amman

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian ambassador in Amman on Sunday, requesting his country to refrain from "questioning" Jordan's positions on the Palestinian issue after the kingdom announced intercepting "flying objects" during the Iranian attack on Israel. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated in an interview with the official "Al-Mamlaka" channel that "the ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador on Sunday and sent him a clear message that these offenses against Jordan must stop, and this questioning of Jordan's positions must cease."

He added: "Unfortunately, there were offensive statements about Jordan from Iranian media, including the official Iranian news agency." Safadi clarified that "Iran's problem is with Israel, not with Jordan, and neither Iran nor anyone else can leverage what Jordan is doing and what it has historically contributed for Palestine."

He also stated: "We want good relations with all countries in the region, including Iran, and to reach these good relations, there must be respect for others, no interference in internal affairs, and no offenses against Jordan, because we will not accept anyone insulting Jordan."

He affirmed that "if this threat is coming from Israel, Jordan will take the same action it did before, and this is a position we confirm clearly and explicitly, and we will not allow anyone to endanger Jordan and Jordanians' security."

Jordan announced on Sunday that it intercepted "flying objects" that violated its airspace late Saturday and early Sunday, coinciding with the missile and drone strikes launched by Iran against Israel, pledging to confront any threat "from any source."

Social media users in the kingdom also shared videos showing debris from another missile in the Al-Hasa area in the southern Tafila Governorate. Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel late Saturday to early Sunday in response to a strike that targeted its consulate in Damascus, which was a previously unprecedented direct attack that was "foiled" according to the Israeli military.
