"Israel Provokes Egypt".. And the Latter Rejects Tel Aviv's Control Over Rafah Crossing

Egypt confirmed today, Thursday, its rejection of the Israeli presence at the Rafah crossing, asserting that it will not grant Tel Aviv legitimacy to control it. In an interview with "Sky News Arabia," the head of the Egyptian General Authority for Information, Diaa Rashwan, stated that Israel's control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing is "unjustified." He added that "Cairo has specific constants regarding the crossing and refuses to grant legitimacy to Israel's control over the Palestinian side and will not cooperate with it."

Regarding coordination with Israel, Rashwan emphasized that "Egypt has not ceased coordination for its interests and the interests of Palestine, having done so in all previous wars waged on Gaza." The official noted that "Cairo is keen on peace, but it is also concerned about its national security and the resolution of the Palestinian issue; it is cautious but not fearful."

He stressed that "Israel has consistently provoked the Egyptian side, accusing Cairo of supplying weapons to the resistance and closing the Rafah crossing, a claim that Tel Aviv repeated in the International Criminal Court, in addition to its efforts to displace Palestinians and its repeated statements in this context."

He pointed out that the statement "continues to question the Egyptian stance and the campaigns directed against the country, claiming that Egypt altered the draft of the ceasefire agreement between Palestinians and Israelis are matters that might ultimately drive Cairo to withdraw from the mediation that came after persistent American-Israeli insistence."

Rashwan affirmed that "withdrawing from mediation efforts will not prevent Egypt from continuing its support for the rights of the Palestinian people."
