Arsenal Escapes Defeat Against Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich squandered a precious win against host Arsenal, drawing 2-2 on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The two teams will meet again for the second leg on Bayern's home ground.

Arsenal nearly opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Martin Ødegaard passed to Gabriel Martinelli on the left side, but the latter's attempt went wide of the post. Bukayo Saka received a pass from Ben White and skillfully set himself up before firing a left-footed shot into the net. Arsenal took the lead in the 12th minute when Saka received the ball from teammate Ben White, set himself up to shoot, and sent the ball past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

However, Bayern equalized in the 18th minute when Leroy Sané intercepted a pass from Gabriel Magalhães and relayed it to Leon Goretzka, who then passed to Serge Gnabry. The latter faced Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and scored.

The referee awarded a penalty to Bayern after Sane was fouled by Saliba. Harry Kane successfully converted the spot-kick in the 32nd minute, giving Bayern the lead. Arsenal tried to apply pressure to equalize before halftime, but Gabriel committed a foul while attempting to reach Saka's cross in the 41st minute.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made a change at halftime, bringing on Oleksandr Zinchenko for Jakub Kiwior. Gnabry broke through on the left side, but his shot went wide in the 56th minute. Arsenal players appealed for a penalty in the 63rd minute, claiming that Kai Havertz was fouled by Zinchenko, but the referee rejected the appeal.

Kingsley Coman entered Bayern's lineup in place of Sané, while Arsenal substituted Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus for Martinelli and Jorginho. Trossard equalized for Arsenal in the 76th minute when he received a pass from Jesus and placed the ball directly into the bottom corner of the net. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya then controlled a weak shot from Coman following a pass from Jamal Musiala in the 80th minute.
