Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the troops fighting in the northeast of the country on Tuesday and met with commanders to discuss the situation on the battlefield in one of the most heated fronts of the war with Russia. While Zelensky did not specify the exact location of his visit, he mentioned that he met with brigades engaged in the Kupiansk-Lyman sector, where the Ukrainian army reports that Russian forces are launching attacks. The Ukrainian president stated on X (formerly Twitter), "We met with the leaders of the brigades and battalions to discuss the situation on the battlefield, urgent issues, and needs."
In the coming weeks, we are determined to work actively with our partners to provide our warriors with more weapons and ammunition, particularly air defense systems and missiles. The president's office also released video footage showing Zelensky at different moments during the visit, shaking hands with soldiers, sitting at a table with commanders, and listening to a briefing from an officer. Zelensky has regularly checked on the troops since the extensive invasion by Moscow in February 2022.
Since Kyiv launched a counter-offensive in the east and south four months ago, Ukrainian forces have made only gradual gains, but Zelensky has dismissed external criticisms that progress has been hampered by poor military strategy.
Today in the Kharkiv region, I met with our brave brigades, commanders, and local authorities. On all fronts—military and civilian—we are making strides to defend our land, secure our energy system, and ensure social protection for people.
