State Security Clarifies the Truth About Promotions for Ranks

The General Directorate of State Security announced today, Sunday, in a statement that "after some media outlets circulated news about the Directorate's rejection of a draft law proposed by several deputies to promote rank holders with university degrees in various security agencies to officer rank, the Directorate clarified that what is being raised in this regard does not apply to the Directorate of State Security. This is because other agencies have decided to open internal courses to meet their needs for officers by promoting successful ranks to the rank of Lieutenant after they have undergone examinations. Legal and military issues then arose between some of the successful candidates and their leaders, which does not apply to the General Directorate of State Security. The latter has not declared its needs nor conducted examinations, and has not deprived some of its ranks of promotion. Thus, a unified approach to these promotions across all security and military agencies is illogical and illegal, particularly since the majority of State Security ranks are university students, and a large number of them hold university degrees, which is a source of appreciation and pride for the leadership. This has positively reflected on their performance in both job and social fields."

It added, "The matter of promotions from the rank of ranker to officer involves many criteria, the most important of which is the need of State Security for the required number, in addition to the ages of the ranks and the positions they will occupy, and the necessity of those positions to align with the degree obtained by the ranker and its compatibility with the security or administrative work of the officer during his service. These matters are regulated by the Directorate's law and clarified therein. Therefore, the source requests various media outlets that published the news to ensure accuracy and refer to the Directorate's media department before publishing, in order to provide them with realistic information based on the principle of integrated security journalism, serving the truth that remains a noble goal for all of us."
