The Press Syndicate Council, in a statement following its regular meeting chaired by Syndicate President Awani al-Kaaki, mentioned that "in accordance with the provisions of articles 79, 80, and 81 of the Press Law, and based on the decision of the Council during its session today, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, and in reference to article 79 of the Press Law which stipulates that the representative of the publication in general assemblies must be registered in the syndicate’s journal and must represent the publication either as a journalist owner of the publication or as a responsible manager, editor-in-chief, or commercial manager."
The council indicated that "in accordance with article 22 of the Law of the Guarantee Fund for Newspaper Journalists, which states that annual subscriptions for publications must be settled, any publication that fails to do so will be deprived of all its syndicate rights."
It called on the owners of political and non-political publications to "hurry to settle their publication subscriptions and notify the syndicate with a letter signed by the publication owner naming the journalist who will represent their publication in the general assembly meetings within a period not exceeding ten days from the date of this notice, so that the syndicate's registry can be revised in preparation for the general assembly elections of the Press Syndicate."
It clarified that "any publication that does not send the required letter will have its representative in the syndicate registry as the accountable manager whose name is registered with the Ministry of Information and the Press Syndicate."
