Omar Hatem, the son of former Egyptian Minister of Health Hatem El-Gabaly, was kidnapped by a gang of 10 individuals, orchestrated by his personal trainer. The victim revealed in statements to the investigating authorities that he works as a doctor and is a seconded member of a company. He met the first suspect, Mohamed Labib, through social media while looking for a personal fitness trainer.
He mentioned that the suspect visited him at his home on the night of the incident, asking for help to find a job, and then he agreed to drive him to a main road so he could find transportation. After driving for about 30 meters, the suspect asked to take over the driving, which Omar agreed to, moving to the passenger seat beside him.
Omar Hatem stated that the suspect requested to be taken to the Mohandessin neighborhood, but he refused, citing fatigue. This led to the suspect stopping in front of a car from which three individuals emerged, who proceeded to kidnap him, forcing him into the back seat while they surrounded him.
Omar was surprised when the first suspect, Mohamed Labib, informed the gang that he had been injured during the kidnapping, requesting to be let out, which made Omar realize his involvement with them, according to the Cairo 24 website.
He confirmed that the gang members wore black masks and covered his eyes with a black scarf, taking him to an apartment where they demanded he obey their orders. The victim noted that they inquired about his mobile phone, and when they couldn’t find it, they took his wallet containing four bank cards, to which he provided them with the corresponding passwords. After three hours, they moved him to another location, where they took turns monitoring him before releasing him.
