The German Research Center for Geosciences reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck Mindanao Island in the Philippines today, Thursday. The center noted that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 630 kilometers. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology stated in a memo that the earthquake, occurring at such a great depth and underwater, is not expected to cause damage, but aftershocks are anticipated. The Philippines is located within the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific, where volcanic and seismic activities are common.
