MP Ghassan Skaf, during a reception for Easter congratulators at his home in Aita al-Fokhar - Rashaya District, pointed out that "accusing others arbitrarily regarding the one billion euros to be provided by the European Commission is not our character or ethics. However, what has strengthened the hypothesis of a deal or bribery for some is the lack of clarity of this agreement, and second, the timing of the one billion euro grant coinciding with the agreement on seasonal labor migration to the European Union, while Lebanese people are losing their interests in favor of the Syrian refugees."
He expressed surprise at "the absence of mention of the presidency in the tripartite meeting held between President Najib Mikati, the President of the European Commission, and the Cypriot president, highlighting the necessity of electing a president since this matter fundamentally relates to the authority of the President. It is as if we have entered a phase of normalization with the exclusion of the President, and the Parliament should address this issue, study it, and approve this agreement and the one billion euros."
He stated: "With the Israeli threats to Lebanon, the timing of Ursula von der Leyen's visit to Lebanon indicates that the file of Syrian refugees has become very important and a priority for the European Union, especially after the Israeli threats. Lebanon has become a formidable barrier against the exodus or migration of Syrians to Lebanon, which is threatened with collapse, while Lebanon refuses to be a refuge or a hub for Syrian asylum, and the European Union rejects Lebanon as a transit point for Syrian refugees to Europe."
He concluded: "The fireball created by the Syrian displacement in Lebanon will not only explode in Lebanon but its shrapnel will reach Europe."
