The head of the "Karama" movement, MP Faisal Karami, emphasized on Wednesday the "necessity of expediting the election of a president for the republic, as it is the key to activating all the engines of the country." He pointed out that "when the election is delayed, we send negative signals to countries around the world, to the Lebanese interior, and to the Christian presence, and we all see no excuse for delaying the election of the president."
After meeting with Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi in Diman, Karami stated: "This visit to this shrine is annual, and it has been carried out by my father and uncle before me to congratulate His Beatitude the Patriarch on his visit to the north and the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was an opportunity to discuss most of the national issues that concern us all."
He added: "We discussed the shifting security events in Lebanon, which is something natural that occurs in every country around the world. However, in Lebanon, matters are interpreted on sectarian and denominational levels. Thankfully, we have the Lebanese army as a guarantor that has so far protected everyone from the moving strife. The only positive thing we have taken from these events is that the Lebanese people have the will and determination to live together, and we have no option but to solve our problems ourselves."
Karami concluded by mentioning: "We also touched on the file of Qornet El-Sawda, and the disagreement that arose, which resulted in the loss of two dear individuals from a region close to our hearts, and how we all intervened to quell this strife. There is no doubt that the blood spilled belongs to all of us; the blood of Bcharre is our blood, and there is nothing called 'our region' and 'your region'." He called for a "solution to the water and pond issues to reduce tensions between families and neighbors, and to allow the judiciary to take its course."
