A Syrian army officer was killed due to an explosion that occurred this morning, Saturday, in the Mezze district of central Damascus, with complete silence from the official media. According to local pages, the explosion targeted a "Lada 2007" vehicle, resulting in the death of Colonel Louay Zouhair Al-Naif, who hails from the town of Al-Basira in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside.
Who is he? Syrian media outlets reported from a security source that an officer with the rank of colonel was killed in an explosion of a bomb in Damascus this Saturday. The government agency "SANA" reported that a person was killed when a bomb exploded in his car in the Mezze area, without revealing additional details. The security source stated that the officer, named Louay Zouhair Al-Naif, aged 50, was killed when the bomb exploded in his Lada 2007 vehicle. He works in the General Recruitment Department and is originally from the town of Al-Basira in Deir ez-Zor.
Social media pages indicated that the explosion occurred near the "Bakri Qaddoura" school in the Mezze area of Damascus. It is noteworthy that this is the second such incident after a bomb exploded in a car in Al-Huda Square, also in the Mezze area, on April 13.
The Mezze area is considered one of the most sensitive regions in the Syrian capital, witnessing the concentration of many security branches and military points of the Syrian regime, along with significant Iranian influence on multiple levels. The Iranian embassy in Damascus is located in the same neighborhood, where the commander of the "Quds Forces" in Lebanon and Syria, Mohammed Reza Zahdi, was killed in an Israeli strike on April 1.
