Lavrov Meets with Foreign Ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council Countries

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) discussed strengthening relations during a meeting on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the TASS news agency, Lavrov stated at the ministerial meeting on Friday, "We are enhancing our cooperation between Russia and the GCC countries. We discussed the situation in detail at the meeting in Riyadh, and we will now look at how to implement the agreements. I am glad to see you."

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov held a meeting yesterday with the members of the "Troika" from the GCC: Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Bahrain's Abdul Latif Al Zayani, and Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mohammed Al Hassan.

The statement indicated that they discussed the prospects for enhancing diverse cooperation between Russia and the GCC countries, including the development of political dialogue and strengthening trade and economic relations. A comprehensive exchange of views on issues on the regional and international agendas also took place.

Lavrov expressed his belief that the multidirectional relations between Russia and the GCC countries will continue to develop successfully for the benefit of the peoples of our countries, aiming to create a fair, balanced, and sustainable structure for international relations in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
