On Thursday, the Egyptian Navy rescued a group of illegal migrants whose vessel had malfunctioned in the Mediterranean Sea. The Alexandria Governorate issued a statement detailing the rescue operation, explaining that it received a signal from the Alexandria Port Operations Room reporting that an American ship named USS Bulkely had spotted a migrant vessel with mechanical failure about 130 nautical miles from the border city of Sallum, carrying 31 individuals of various nationalities.
The Egyptian Navy mobilized immediately following the report to retrieve the migrants and transport them to Dock No. 8 at Alexandria Port. Seven equipped ambulances and a full medical team were dispatched. The Social Solidarity Directorate provided the necessary support to the injured.
The statement from Alexandria Governorate indicated that the incident resulted in the death of one migrant and five individuals sustaining critical injuries. They were transported within Alexandria Port, and necessary procedures are currently being undertaken.
