Hollywood-Style Escape: Who is "The Fly" Who Shocked France?

Hollywood-Style Escape: Who is

Hundreds of police officers in the Normandy region of France are still searching for the dangerous criminal who escaped in a manner reminiscent of a movie yesterday, after attacking police officers escorting him from the court in Rouen to prison, freeing their leader.

So who is this man, now one of the most wanted figures in France, nicknamed "The Fly"? His name is Mohamed Amra, known as "The Fly," and he has connections to a gang in the southern city of Marseille, which is plagued by drug-related violence. However, the Paris prosecutor stated on Tuesday that his criminal record does not currently include any drug-related convictions.

He has been convicted of 13 offenses, with the first dating back to 2009 when he was only 15 years old. Although the 30-year-old was not classified as a "closely monitored prisoner," the Paris prosecutor previously confirmed that his transfer required "Level 3 escort."

On Tuesday, just before the surprise attack, the Evreux Court sentenced Amra to 18 months in prison for aggravated burglary, including the theft of a supermarket and retail stores. The regional court specialized in Marseille also charged him with "kidnapping leading to death," suspecting him of issuing an order for a murder committed in Marseille in 2022, according to RTL.

At that time, the charred body of a man, shot in the head, was found inside a burnt car in Le Rouet, near Marseille. However, it seems that the thirty-something had attempted to escape his cell just two days prior by removing the bars of the cell. Shortly thereafter, he managed to flee in a scene that shocked French public opinion significantly, as an armed group with automatic weapons attacked the truck transporting Amra, freeing him after killing three police officers.
