The Israeli army killed a Palestinian child while he was eating, with "a mouthful of food," during a surprise attack on the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, amidst a total of 1,000 casualties. This incident occurred during an operation aimed at freeing four Israeli prisoners. A circulated video shows a group of people surrounding the child's body, with another person carrying him and screaming in horror at the sight, where the "mouthful" he was eating before his death is visible.
Additionally, residents and media reported that Israeli forces bombed central Gaza again on Sunday, following the death of 274 Palestinians in the attack to rescue Israeli prisoners. Tanks advanced in other areas of Rafah in an attempt to close off part of the city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Paramedics stated that Palestinians remain in shock due to the number of fatalities that occurred on Saturday, marking one of the highest tolls recorded in a 24-hour period during the months-long Gaza war. Among the deceased were many women and children. The Ministry of Health in Gaza updated on Sunday that 274 Palestinians had been killed—up from 210 reported on Saturday—while 698 others were injured due to the incursion by Israeli special forces into the overcrowded al-Nuseirat camp, in an operation to rescue four prisoners held by Hamas since October.
