Austin in Israel to Discuss "Transition" in Gaza War

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted on Monday that he discussed the shifts in the war from major combat operations to lower-intensity warfare during his visit to Israel, but he emphasized that he would not dictate timelines. During a press conference, Austin stated, "In any campaign, there will be phases," adding that this requires "detailed and careful planning." Austin arrived in Israel earlier today, on a visit that officials said is "expected to focus on ultimately ending the intense war in Gaza and transitioning to a more limited and focused conflict."
