The floods from the atmospheric depression have invaded the coastal restaurants from Beirut toward the north. Despite some municipalities being prepared for the first rain, conditions do not bode well at night, as the floods swept away waste, bicycles, and anything that was in their path. The floods and direct inundation in Jounieh, Mount Lebanon, affected restaurants, parking lots, and motorcycles, which ended up in the sea due to the flowing water.
Deputy Elias Hankach commented on X: "It is midnight, and citizens are calling because they are stuck in the Dhbayeh area due to the flooding of the highway." He expressed gratitude to the local youth and civil defense, stating that the Ministry of Public Works is surprised by the first rain as usual each year. He mentioned having sent a letter to the Ministers of Public Works and Interior weeks ago to alert them about the state of the roads and prioritize traffic safety, but he received no response.
Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh wrote on X: "For the public opinion to judge responsibility among some: It's as if calls for integration among the concerned parties become worthless! He accompanied his post with a picture and video, stating, “The picture: This morning from Jounieh near the Dweihy Sweets before the Harissa intersection - the video this evening from the same place shows a flood of waste in front of the shops and from the upper area!”
In a second post on X, Minister Hamieh added: "The Ministry of Public Works and Transport's crews are currently working on cleaning… We accepted the nature's judgment and climate change, but it's unacceptable to tolerate the negligence from people and deficiencies from other administrations and then face insults and blame-shifting when flooding occurs."
The Civil Defense worked on rescuing two cars and saving citizens trapped inside them this evening on the eastern lane of the highway near the "Institute of the Apostles" bridge due to a water pool formed from heavy rainfall.
A video captured the movement of the atmospheric low that reached Syria and Lebanon, flooding coastal roads toward the north.
The Internal Security Forces' Traffic Control Room urged drivers to be cautious and slow down due to the rain, prioritizing public safety.
