The Russian-Ukrainian frontlines witnessed a new day of escalation and fighting on Thursday, as the Russian army attempted to expand its control over more Ukrainian territory, while Kyiv's forces resisted the Russian bear with the help of Western military supplies. In the latest developments, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv reported a Russian missile attack in the early hours of Thursday, which resulted in the injury of eight individuals and damage to residential buildings and industrial facilities. This marks the first major missile attack on Kyiv in weeks.
The mayor stated via the Telegram app that air defense units were working to thwart the attack, adding that missile debris was falling over various areas of the city. He clarified, "There are already eight injured due to the enemy's attack." He further noted that the wreckage of a Russian missile had fallen on several residential buildings, industrial sites, and a kindergarten. Emergency workers rushed to various locations in the capital to extinguish several fires.
Meanwhile, Russian air defense destroyed 10 "Vampire" missiles over Belgorod province. Prior to this, sirens sounded to warn of the threat of missile attacks in Belgorod, according to the provincial governor. He wrote on his Telegram channel: "... do not approach the windows, take shelter in windowless rooms with hard walls such as (hallways, bathrooms, toilets, storage rooms); if you are on the street, move to a shelter or any other safe place."
Earlier, multiple explosions were heard in the early hours of Thursday in the capital Kyiv following air raid alerts triggered by the detection of Russian missile and drone attacks. Moscow and Kyiv exchanged strikes on Wednesday, resulting in civilian casualties on both sides, as Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the Russian border regions against increasing attacks from Ukraine.
