New Family Crime in Jordan: Young Man Beats Sister to Death

Following the horrific crime committed by a young man who stabbed his mother 40 times in Karak, southern Jordan, another family crime has occurred in less than 24 hours. A young man killed his sister by beating her. Colonel Amer Sartawi, the spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate in Jordan, stated to "Al Arabiya.net" that a report was received about the death of a woman in her thirties inside her parents' home in the Ain Al-Basha area of Balqa Governorate. Initial investigations revealed signs of severe violence on her body due to being beaten by her brother.

The body was transferred to forensic medicine to determine the cause of death, and the brother was arrested with investigations underway to prepare for his referral to the judiciary. Judicial sources told "Al Arabiya.net" that the attorney general of the Grand Criminal Court is expected to charge the young man with intentional murder, which carries a penalty of death by hanging.

In 2023, the Jordanian Women's Solidarity Institute (Tadamon) recorded 27 family crimes in Jordan, resulting in 25 victims (16 females and 9 males), noting there were also 3 attempted murders resulting in 5 injuries. The institute stated that the toll of family murder crimes in 2023 was documented in the Tadamon Observatory based on statements from the Public Security Directorate and various Jordanian media outlets.
